Amsterdam Bars and Clubs

Absinthe
Nieuwe Zijdsvoorburgwal, Amsterdam Netherlands
A small, funky Amsterdam club boasting a mixed crowd and a casual, but trendy, Amsterdam nightlife vibe.

Arena Club
Gravesandestraat 51, Amsterdam Netherlands
Park backpacker hotel, part disco, the Arena Club at the Hotel Arena is a club built into a 100-year-old Roman Catholic church, which hasn't been trendified but retains a somber feel giving the Arena Club a moody, but approachable, vibe. The dress code is lax and '80s and '890s music dominate the bill.

Back Door
Amstelstraat 32, Amsterdam Netherlands
Amsterdam's Back Door club takes retro interior design cues from the mellow Fern Bars of the 1970s, and plays music from era to a younger, mid-twenties crowd.

Club More
Rozengracht 133, Amsterdam Netherlands
Recently replacing the Club Roxy, Club More is a trendy Amsterdam club with a gorgeous interior that'll match your Cosmo: pink concrete floors and white walls. Club More attracts upscale Amsterdam clubbers in Gucci and Prada who want to dance, and plays a variety of music, steering clear of hardcore and trance, to please dancers of all sorts, from house to reggae to R&B.

Dansen Bij Jansen
Handboogstraat 11, Amsterdam Netherlands
For students only, Amsterdam's Dansen Bij Jansen checks student IDs at the door. Inside, the dress code is casual and the small dance floor heats up with disco and pop faves.

De Club
Amsterdam Netherlands
Started by local Amsterdam movie industry insiders, De Club was originally meant as a social club for directors, moviemakers and actors. In doing so, it attracted the masses and is now a hotspot for Generation X, even those with children (there's a childcare center for partying parents).

De Duivel
Reguliersdwarsstraat 87, Amsterdam Netherlands
The only Amsterdam club for hip hop and rap, dress urban for a night at Amsterdam's slammin' De Duivel nightclub.

Korsakoff
Lijnbaansgracht 161, Amsterdam Netherlands
In a city known for techno and urban sounds, Korsakoff caters to the punk rock and goth crowd, so black velvet and pink hair are apropos at Amsterdam's Korkasoff club. Wednesdays feature live music.

Mazzo
Rozengracht 114, Amsterdam Netherlands
Even though it's one of Amsterdam's oldest clubs, Mazzo is not overtly known to tourists and caters to an older, local crowd drawn to its cutting edge0 music and video visuals. Age restriction: 23 and older.

Melkweg
Lijnbaansgracht 234a, Amsterdam Netherlands
An Amsterdam live music venue, Melkweg is a little bit of everything with a recoding studio, a gallery, a theatre and a 750-person capacity Old Hall, the stage of which has hosted touring acts from around the world. Every November, Melkweg hosts the Cannibus Cup and has shed its hippie vibe in recent years, though the music repertoire still favors world music.

Ministry
Regulierdwarsstraat 12, Amsterdam Netherlands
Located in the heart of Amsterdam, Ministry is a small, upscale Amsterdam nightclub with an intimate vibe for sweating to R&B remixes, oldskool, hip hop and urban sounds. Open Friday to Monday, Ministry has a strict, but friendly, door policy.

Odeon
Singel 460, Amsterdam Netherlands
Popular with university students, Amsterdam's Odeon nightlclub used to be one of the hardest clubs in town to get into. Now, the elegant club's varied three floors, housed in a converted seventeenth-century canal house, have passed their zenith and the door filter is considerably less stringent.

Paradiso
Weteringschans 6-8, Amsterdam Netherlands
An Amsterdam club in a former church, Paradiso has some of the best acoustics in town, and like Melkweg, is known primarily for live music, albeit of a more modern, indie bent than Melkweg.

Sinners In Heaven
Wagenstraat 3-7, Amsterdam Netherlands
With mirrored walls reflecting the well-heeled images of celebrity partiers, Sinners is an excellent Amsterdam nightclub for house music and R&B. Small but impressive, Sinners is accessible to the well-dressed and coiffed partier.

The Escape
Rembrandtplein 11, Amsterdam Netherlands
One of Amsterdam's largest nightclubs, the Escape has had a reputation, now waning some, for being picky: gorgeous men and women, or those in tow with the beautiful, are spirited inside while the rest wait in the wings. Saturday night is the club's signature night, Chemistry, where international DJs and local legends spin the night away.

The Power Zone
Daniel Goedkoopstraat 1-3, Amsterdam Netherlands
A massive Amsterdam club, the Power Zone steers clear of strict door policies and lets anyone into its 5,000-capacity mega-space. House music for all is the egalitarian motto of this out-of-the-way Amsterdam blub, complete with a lounge, a huge dance floor and oval bars perfect for people watching.

Trance Club
Oudezijds Voorburgwal 216, Amsterdam Netherlands
A small, two-room club located on the western edge of the Red Light district, Amsterdam's Trance Club is an ideal spot for winding down a long night of Amsterdam club-hopping.
